Training and Certification Program
California-Specific SWANA MOLO training and certification program will allow landfill managers operators and inspectors in California to meet California training and certification needs. The California Specific curriculum prepares students for the exam that test an individual's knowledge of California's landfill operations, regulations and requirements. The course is designed to train managers, operators and inspectors of landfill operations in the State of California to increase the competency and efficiency of solid waste landfill operations. For those interested in being California-specific SWANA MOLO Certified, there is an additional short exam that must be taken in addition to the mandatory test. You have the opportunity to be ahead of the curve by becoming California - specific SWANA MOLO certified.
Certification
Mission: To advance professionalism and promote excellence in certification programs in the field of solid waste management across North America.
Purpose: The purpose of the certification program is to provide a means to recognize individuals who practice in the field of solid waste management and certify those individuals who meet established standards in the field.
Certification is issued after successful completion of a written examination. It is currently valid for a period of three years. Certification is maintained by accumulating 30 Continuing Education Units (CEU's) during this period and payment of the Re-Certification/Maintenance fee. The Certification program is followed after each training program and is voluntary.
The California Certification program is designed to address California-specific material which includes a curriculum that includes: bird and vector control, daily cover, disposal of tires, drainage & erosion, explosive gas control, grading, intermediate cover, leachate control, litter records and site security. The California Certification examination will be offered once a year with future dates, times and locations of future events found under the "Calendar of Events" of this web site.
The SWANA Certification program has six categories: Landfill, Transfer Station, Recycling, Construction and Demolition Waste Operations, Collection and Management of Municipal Solid Waste Systems. These training programs are offered throughout the United States and Canada with specific dates, times and locations found on the SWANA web site: http://www.swana.org. Certification is now $150 for Members and $275 for Non-Members.
Re-Certification Requirements
Initial certification must be through training and testing provided by SWANA.
The term of certification is three years. Re-certification can be accomplished
by the demonstration of 30 contact hours of training determined by SWANA
to enhance the capabilities of the candidate. Re-certification can also
be accomplished by re-taking the MOLO training course. There is a $150
re-certification fee (not included in the cost of the course). If you are
taking the course for re-certification, you must pay the $150 re-certification
fee along with the course registration.
Failed Certification Candidates
Candidates who are determined to be certifiable but fail the written examination
may re-take the examination twice within 6 months of the first exam without
additional instruction. The fee for each re-test is $150 for members and
$275 for non-members.
